Australian ex-swimmer Scott Miller, 47, will spend the next five-and-a-half years behind bars. He received a prison sentence for possession and transportation of drugs.

Miller was arrested in the Sydney suburb of Roseleigh in February last year. A search of the former athlete’s home revealed, among other things, 800 grams of heroin and about $50,000 in cash. Police discovered that the ex-swimmer was the leader of a ring that smuggled drugs from Sydney to the rest of Australia.

The court sentenced Miller to five and a half years in prison.

Scott Miller won two gold medals at the 1994 Commonwealth Games and in 1995 won a gold and two silver medals at the World Short Course Swimming Championships. At the 1996 Olympic Games, the Australian won a silver and a bronze medal.
